Why Warming Up Matters
Golf might not seem as intense as other sports, but the demands on your body—especially your shoulders, hips, spine, and core—are significant. Starting your round cold can lead to:
- Decreased swing speed
- Poor mobility and swing mechanics
- Increased risk of low back, shoulder, and elbow injuries
A proper warm-up doesn’t need to take more than 5–10 minutes, but it can:
✅ Boost your power and control
✅ Improve flexibility and coordination
✅ Get your nervous system ready for high-level performance
The 5-Minute Golf Warm-Up Routine
Here’s a simple and effective routine you can do at the course—no equipment needed.
1. Dynamic Arm Swings (30 seconds)
Start with gentle forward and backward swings, then cross your arms in front of your chest. This gets blood flowing to the shoulders and thoracic spine.
2. Hip Openers (30 seconds)
March in place and bring each knee up toward your chest, rotating it outward like you're stepping over a hurdle. Great for loosening hips and activating glutes.
3. Torso Rotations (30 seconds)
Hold a club across your shoulders and rotate gently side to side. This primes your core and improves spinal mobility.
4. Lunges with Rotation (1 minute)
Step forward into a lunge and rotate toward your front leg. This combines strength, balance, and mobility—key for any solid swing.
5. Toe Touch to Overhead Reach (1 minute)
Start by reaching down to your toes, then sweep your arms overhead while standing tall. This stretches the hamstrings, activates your lats, and wakes up your posture muscles.
6. Practice Swings (2 minutes)
Finish with 5–10 smooth practice swings. Start slow, gradually increasing speed to your normal tempo. Focus on rhythm and form.
